THE BIRTH OF KITTYDOG
Kittydog started because Kitty needed a coat. She hated coats. She would stand stock still and refuse to move as soon as she saw one. However, Kitty needs a coat. She has a hip problem which needs to be kept warm and dry in the cold, wet weather that we are so blessed with here in the Pennines.
So after buying many dog-related garments and having each one of them rejected by Kitty, Alison (Kitty’s human) decided to try and make her a coat that suited her exacting standards.
It had to be lightweight, so she didn't buckle her knees as soon as she felt the weight. It had to be soft, so it didn't make any unwelcome rustling noises. No Velcro was a must, she hated the noise and her own coat trapped in the sticky nature of the fabric. Fasteners of any kind really weren't welcome, nor were sleeves, anything that touched her tail, or flapped.
The coat needed to stand up to cold, wet weather, while being strong, durable and machine washable. So after many biscuits to persuade her muse to help, the Kittydog Vest was born.
ABOUT KITTYDOG
Kittydog dog fleeces are made by textile artist Alison Wilkin. Alison is originally from Liverpool but has lived in Mytholmroyd, near Hebden Bridge, for just about long enough not to be considered an “Offcummden”. She has a degree in textiles/fashion (Embroidery).
After working as a freelance textile designer, then for over twenty years as a primary school teacher, Alison left teaching and decided to pair her love of dogs with her love of textiles. She returned to her creative roots, determined to make stylish, practical dogwear that dogs would like to wear and humans would envy.
If your dog won’t wear a coat, perhaps Kittydog can help you.
